The Foundations of Mindfulness
REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED
An eight-week course
Tuesday Evenings, March 21 to May 9
Online and in-person
The benefits of mindfulness meditation are well documented. They include: reductions in anxiety, stress, rumination, and emotional reactivity, as well as improvements in concentration, memory, sleep, communication, relationships, health, and overall well-being. Above all, mindfulness can be a pathway to greater self understanding and peace; we learn to be with the joys and sorrows of life from a balanced place of compassionate wisdom.
However, developing and maintaining a consistent mindfulness practice can prove challenging. Whether you are new to the practice or needing a little motivation to keep going, this eight-week course is for you. It will be offered online and in-person.
Taught by Nelle Oosterom, the Dharma leader of Two Rivers Insight Meditation, the course takes a practical approach to integrating ancient Buddhist wisdom teachings with contemporary psychology and neuroscience. The version of mindfulness taught here draws heavily on Bikkhu Analayo’s Satipatthana Meditation: A Practice Guide and Joseph Goldstein’s Mindfulness: A Practical Guide to Awakening.
During the course, you will be assigned mindfulness exercises to do during the week. These will include readings, listening to guided meditations, self-guided meditations, and certain mindfulness practices that you can do at anytime.
About the instructor: Nelle has been practising in the Insight Meditation tradition since 1995 and has taught meditation in Winnipeg for nearly two decades. She has an ongoing mentoring relationship with Sharda Rogell, a senior Insight teacher in California. Nelle has also sat retreats with many other teachers and leads a weekly meditation session with Two Rivers Insight Meditation Community.
